About Agape Oasis:
Agape Child Development Center is a faith-based nonprofit childcare program that’s meeting the high demands of a non-standard hour care center. Agape has been in operation since 1997 and is the first of its kind in the state of Minnesota.
Plan and conduct a daily program that provides an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children where self-concepts are independently encouraged, individuality is respected and consistent with the goals and objectives of Agape Child Development Center.
General Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
Plan a rich and diverse environment to serve as the foundation for the child’s growth and learning.
Implement developmentally appropriate, anti-bias, and multicultural cultural curriculum.
Make materials and toys uncomplicated for children’s use.
Report need for equipment, toys, and supplies to Supervisor or Director. Recommend purchases of toys and equipment within budget.
Take primary responsibility for the classroom.
Assume equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
Keep the classroom stimulating and orderly.
Keep equipment in clean & good condition, repairing when necessary.
Help to keep the entire Center attractive, sanitary, and orderly.
Daily Program Responsibilities:
Create a successful experience that fosters a positive self-concept and an environment that fosters independence and allows children to make choices.
Develop activities that meet the special needs and interest of each individual child as well as the group.
Plan activities that encourage each child’s cognitive, language, emotional, social and physical growth.
Plan with the Team weekly lesson plans based on the curriculum outline. Provide aides with the opportunity to have input into program planning.
Interact throughout the entire day with the children on their own level, and to encourage their involvement in activities.
Use appropriate and positive discipline.
Help each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of the group.
Consider the individual child in relationship to the child’s cultural and social economic background.
Work together with the entire staff as a member of the team to know all of the children as much as possible, exchanging ideas for the benefit of all children enrolled in the Center.
Assumes responsibility of children in his/her care and proper care of equipment, facilities, management of materials and supplies.
Train new Teacher or Aide to be accustomed to the classroom.
Establish and maintain good communication with parents through daily or weekly communication sheets, parent/teacher conferences.
Seek parent input if child is experiencing problems.
Contact parent if child is absent two consecutive days without explanation and report absence to Supervisor or Director.
Partner with parents/guardians of child to give the child appropriate education and healthy development.
Observation and Record Keeping:
Observe and record individual children’s development and interests to aid in planning, curriculum development, and to plan parent conferences.
Keep daily attendance records, curriculum plans, volunteer hours, assessment records, conference records, daily health checks, medical forms, dispensing of medication, accident reports, behavioral observations, student transfer forms, monthly supply and equipment form.
Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior.
Supervision of Staff:
Supervises and coordinates volunteers.
Maintains break schedules with classroom staff to provide proper staff coverage and ratios throughout the entire day. Reports information to Supervisor and Director.
Adhere to professional development requirements.
To be punctual and dependable; manage time efficiently.
Attend staff meetings and arrange schedules accordingly.
Meet DHS licensing requirements for maintaining the position.
Adhere to outside preparation time necessary.
Take on additional responsibilities assigned by Supervisor and Director.
Attend workshops and meetings when appropriate to job and approved by administration.
Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education (minimum of 18 quarter credits) & 1,040 hours teaching in early childhood; degree in Elementary Education with 520 hours teaching; technical college certificate as a Child Development Assistant & 2,080 hours as an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher; CDA from Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition; GED with 24 quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.
Pediatric First Aid & CPR certificates.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
